Cheetos have been the Salt star’s easy snack-on-the go for her kids for years. But now she’s making healthier choices, and it’s an easy swap you can make too.
It’s no secret that Angelina Jolie‘s kids love Cheetos. Who can forget the images of Shiloh grabbing onto the bag like a security blanket? Junk food can be an easy snack when you’re out running errands with the kids, but why not give them something that’s healthy and that tastes good? While out shopping for toys on Wednesday, Angelina’s kids, Shiloh, Pax and Zahara were seen clutching JUST Fruits, a packaged organic fruit and vegetable puree. That sounds like an improvement on an extruded cheese snack, but isn’t it better to just reach for a piece of fruit?
“Products that are truly just purified fruit (Like JUST Fruits), those count the same as eating a mango or a plum,” says Melinda Johnson, MS, RD, a pediatric nutrition expert and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. But when the product has added ingredients, like sweeteners, then Johnson says, ”The added sugar makes it the same as handing a kid a candy bar.”
Shiloh’s choice — Just Pear — was pure fruit, although some variations do contain citric acid. Put to the candy test, the products contain the same amount of sugar as an apple, not a Snickers bar. Sounds like Angelina is on the right track!
The new snack swap might be due to the 35-year-old’s new outlook on staying healthy. “I lost my mother not so long ago,” she told the Chicago Sun-Times, “and there is something about the years passing where you really appreciate life more each day. It becomes important for you to stay healthy.” Sounds good to us, and it looks like Shiloh’s on board too!
