The newest member of the hit reality TV show shares some devastating personal news with her fans, and gets a flood of well wishes in return.

Jennifer Gilbert, the newest cast member of The Real Housewives of New York City, announced some sad news via Twitter on Wednesday, writing, “My son is diagnosed with alopecia. A strange AI that causes his hair to fall out. We are devestated. Anyone know anything about it?”

Jennifer has twin 2-year-old sons Saxton and Grey as well as a daughter, Blaise, 5, and while she didn’t say which son had the condition, it was doubtless a devastating thing to learn. Alopecia is an autoimmune skin disease that causes a loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body that can start with small patches and progress to complete hair loss. It most often begins in childhood.

Jennifer’s Tweet prompted a flood of responses from fans and she was clearly rocked by the outpouring of support, later writing, “I am humbled by the kindness and comfort of people. Thank u so much for all the messages and notes from you all about my son and his alo(pecia) …”

It’s a parent’s worst nightmare when a child is diagnosed with a disease of any kind, much less one without a cure, like this one. Our thoughts are with Jennifer and her family.
