Ellen DeGeneres has decided she’ll no longer be a judge on Fox’s American Idol but what’s even more shocking is that JLo is swooping in to take her seat! That’s not all — Steven Tyler might replace Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi was fired!
HollywoodLifers we’ve got some breaking American Idol news on our hands! Our sister site Deadline.com reports that Jennifer Lopez, a former AI guest judge this past season, will be replacing Ellen Degeneres as the new American Idol judge! Deadline says the deal was closed this week “under the utmost secrecy.”
BUT that’s not all! We’ve all been wondering who would replace longtime judge and creator of AI, Simon Cowell, and Deadline.com reports Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will fill Cowell’s coveted seat! AND more incredibly shocking reports from Deadline.com and TMZ reveal that the AI judge Kara DioGuardi has been fired!
“We will miss Ellen, she has been the consummate professional throughout her time on the show, and she’ll always be part of the AMERICAN IDOL family,” Idol executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz wrote.
Ellen took to her twitter page to let her fans know about her major decision, July 29: “Dim the lights … I’ve voted myself off American Idol.”
As it turns out, JLo replacing Ellen is a deal that has been in the works for about a month. Deadline.com reports that Jennifer’s manager, Benny Medina, is the one who set up the meeting with AI producers and
We hear her manager Benny Medina (whom she once fired) orchestrated the meeting with the American Idol producers a month ago, and negotiations have been ongoing ever since.
Here are some of Ellen’s thoughts from Fox’s official press release:
“A couple of months ago, I let FOX and the American Idol producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting, and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol and I am grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”

It’s not a loss. Ellen didn’t bring anything to the show. I’m not sure how Jennifer will do.
