Check out this PETA ad Pam did! Does it make a woman look too much like meat?
Uh oh! July 14, Pam Anderson landed in Montreal prepared to launch her new PETA campaign, but was surprised to learn that city officials denied her the permit to hold the public launch event OUTDOORS in Old Montreal claiming that the ad “is sexist!”
In a letter received on July 13 by the PETA representative in charge of the campaign, Commissioner Josée Rocheford emailed the below message:
As you might expect, I have to inform you that we, as public officials representing a municipal government, cannot endorse this image of Ms Anderson. It is not so much controversial as it goes against all principles public organisations are fighting for in the everlasting battle of equality between men and women.
We therefore will not give you a permit to hold your event on Place Jacques-Cartier.
Pamela responded: “In a city that is known for its exotic dancing and for being progressive and edgy, how sad that a woman would be banned from using her own body in a political protest over the suffering of cows and chickens. In some parts of the world, women are forced to cover their whole bodies with burqas—is that next? I didn’t think that Canada would be so puritanical!”
“I think that city officials are confusing ‘sexy’ with ‘sexist,’” added PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews!
In the ad, art directors have placed lines over Pam’s body copying the markings of a butcher’s diagram and the how the butcher dissects the animal. The slogan reads: “All Animals Have the Same Parts. Have a Heart—Go Vegetarian!”
What do you think of Pam’s new ad? Were Montreal officials justified in making her keep her event covered because the ad is just too sexy or should they have let the show go on as planned? Vote below!
