WATCH! Alex Wong Went From A Prissy Ballet Dancer To A Hip B-Boy Last Night On 'SYTYCD!'

Alex Wong is a dancing wonder! Last night he totally nailed his hip-hop routine with tWitch, even though he’s never danced like that before in his life!

All of the So You Think You Can Dance top 9 dancers set the stage on fire last night, June 30, in another exciting show, but it was Alex Wong who truly brought the house down! Who knew this graceful ballet dancer could get down and dirty in some hard-hitting hip-hop?

Not only was Alex out of his element, but he was also paired up for the first same-sex dance of the season with all-star tWitch. Choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon’s concept featured the two men in a psychotherapy session, starring Alex as the patient and tWitch as his shrink. Given that the routine still allowed Alex to show off his ballet expertise with a couple of twirls and other moves, he kept up amazingly with the fast pace and worked well with his partner.

The audience loved every minute of it too. Host Cat Deeley said after the performance, “I have never, never – in So You Think You Can Dance history – heard a roar from a crowd like this!” (Being in the live audience, I can say that the roar could fill that studio for ages! It was a magical moment to witness!)

Another standout routine was the contemporary piece danced by Ashley Galvan and all-star Ade Obayomi, choreographed by first-time SYTYCD choreographer Dee Caspary. Although it was contemporary dancer Ashley’s third routine in her own genre, her partnership with Ade was powerful, and it looked as if she was floating through air –- very pretty!

Last night, we also saw a major wardrobe malfunction when one of the straps on Lauren Froderman’s sparkly dress broke near the end of her Broadway routine! Luckily, the dress managed to stay on as she finished her dance. Phew! Now that’s what I call showmanship!

Although I hate to see anyone go home from this very talented and lovable group of dancers, I’m so ready to see Melinda Sullivan get the boot. It would mean another girl being eliminated for the third week in a row, but after her lackluster routines and hardly seeing any growth from her, she seems like the right one to leave out of the dancers left.

What did you think of last night’s show?
