WATCH! Alex Wong Went From A Prissy Ballet Dancer To A Hip B-Boy Last Night On 'SYTYCD!'

Alex Wong is a dancing wonder! Last night he totally nailed his hip-hop routine with tWitch, even though he’s never danced like that before in his life!

All of the So You Think You Can Dance top 9 dancers set the stage on fire last night, June 30, in another exciting show, but it was Alex Wong who truly brought the house down! Who knew this graceful ballet dancer could get down and dirty in some hard-hitting hip-hop?

Not only was Alex out of his element, but he was also paired up for the first same-sex dance of the season with all-star tWitch. Choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon’s concept featured the two men in a psychotherapy session, starring Alex as the patient and tWitch as his shrink. Given that the routine still allowed Alex to show off his ballet expertise with a couple of twirls and other moves, he kept up amazingly with the fast pace and worked well with his partner.

The audience loved every minute of it too. Host Cat Deeley said after the performance, “I have never, never – in So You Think You Can Dance history – heard a roar from a crowd like this!” (Being in the live audience, I can say that the roar could fill that studio for ages! It was a magical moment to witness!)

Another standout routine was the contemporary piece danced by Ashley Galvan and all-star Ade Obayomi, choreographed by first-time SYTYCD choreographer Dee Caspary. Although it was contemporary dancer Ashley’s third routine in her own genre, her partnership with Ade was powerful, and it looked as if she was floating through air –- very pretty!

Last night, we also saw a major wardrobe malfunction when one of the straps on Lauren Froderman’s sparkly dress broke near the end of her Broadway routine! Luckily, the dress managed to stay on as she finished her dance. Phew! Now that’s what I call showmanship!

Although I hate to see anyone go home from this very talented and lovable group of dancers, I’m so ready to see Melinda Sullivan get the boot. It would mean another girl being eliminated for the third week in a row, but after her lackluster routines and hardly seeing any growth from her, she seems like the right one to leave out of the dancers left.

What did you think of last night’s show?

i thought the best performance was by far alex, and after last night i am now a team alex person- he should win the show! i also thought ashley’s dance was beautiful, but it is not fair for the other dancers that she keeps getting her own style. i thought kent did well, but i would like to see him get his style for once. lauren was good, but she did not stand out in my opinion. billy’s dance was good, but i have to admit i was watching kathryn the whole time, so i don’t know about him not connecting. i loved robert’s routine! i still think adechike should be in the bottom three; his personality did finally come out, but i didn’t think he danced well, and he should have been gone a long time ago. who is voting for him?! also, melinda should definitely be in the bottom three. i think she is awful, and i appreciate the judges saying they made the wrong decision- i could not believe they sent cristina home last week. lastly, i love jose, and i want hime to stick around longer, but i don’t think he should win because he doesn’t do other styles very well. so, i would put him in the bottom as well, but only because there has to be three; he should not go home yet. and those are a few of my many opnions about this show!

Giving Jose a buy for his obvious lack of dance talent is ruining this season for me. his Bollywood being off, ill let it slide, but this week as well, and the judges did not tell him or warn him that that is a bad thing. and then tonight they even admitted Melinda was the better dancer. i never believe a a dancer that isn’t that good and that is also not growing regardless of their charisma, should stay over a better dancer who is getting better technically in other styles, especially when she will never actually be able to get her own style and Adam and Mia should apologize for their comments about “making a mistake last week” that had nothing to do with how she can improve as a dancer and performer. it had no purpose other than to be rude and hurtful when they are supposed to be helpful even if it is in a mean way, that there was nothing helpful about it.

Yeah, I wish they’d criticize Jose. The judges obviously enjoy him for entertainment value – I think there’s going to be a day (When the field is narrowed down) where they’ll get sick of it but for now, they’re just laughing with him.

And I’m still not a Melinda fan, but I thought Mia and Adam’s comments to her last night were very harsh.

good post. Giving Jose a buy for his obvious lack of dance talent is ruining this season for me.
Nigel’s homophobic sexy-routine-guy-girl-format is ruining this season for me. Alex, and twitch proved it.
