Jordin weighs in on who should fill Simon’s throne, talks about her first Broadway role, reveals her Idol crush and reveals whether or not she’s been asked to appear on Glee!
Jordin Sparks, you are one smart cookie! Thanks for offering up the smartest suggestion of a Simon Cowell replacement we’ve heard yet! When we asked who should take over the American Idol judge’s throne, Jordin was quick with her answer: Diddy!
“As far as personality goes, he says what’s on his mind. Simon didn’t want to hurt people’s feelings – it just came off that way,” Idol’s season six winner told HollywoodLife.com exclusively during a phone call June 22. “He’s the best fit! He was great on Making the Band, he’s a producer and he’s been in the industry for a long time. I think he’d probably be the best fit.”
Her one caveat? “We just need to tell him he needs to swear less. They’ll have to bleep him out all the time!” the 20-year-old singer laughed, adding that Howard Stern might not be an appropriate choice, either, as Idol is a family show.
Although Jordin is currently on her own Battlefield Tour, her dream Idol tour mate is none other than season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson. “She’s amazing!” Jordin tells us. “I looked her up before I even did Idol – I wanted to audition after I saw her win. She’s super down-to-earth and so funny, not to mention that her voice is out of this world!”
Also out of this world (in terms of hotness that is) is season 10 contestant Casey James. “I did think Casey was really cute,” she confided. “He was a mix between [former Idol contestants] Bucky Covington, Ace Young and Bo Bice all in one person. I found him to be very cute.”
Jordin, who’s teamed up with Allstate to promote the “Thumbs Up to X the TXT” campaign, which encourages fans to stop texting while driving, also chatted about her upcoming role as Nina in the Broadway musical In the Heights. “I was asking [High School Musical’s Corbin Bleu, who’s currently starring in the show] if there was any way we could do this show together, but his run ends around mid-July, and I start August 19 and go through November. He was phenomenal. Part of my rehearsal is watching the [current show] every night.”
As to the most important question (obviously) – has Jordin been asked to appear on Fox’s smash hit, Glee, well….the answer is NOT YET. But that could change! “I haven’t,” she confided, “but I was so stoked when they used my song [Cory Monteith and Lea Michele dueted to “No Air”] on the show. I heard it and I YouTubed the scene. A lot of my friends are Gleeks and it’s cool that there’s a show out there for all the drama kids!”
