Take a cue from Cameron, NOT Kate, before you get ready to flaunt your gams & shop for stylish summer shorts!

Short shorts seem to be everywhere this season, but you can easily make this totally chic trend look trashy! I’m not tall nor do I have long legs like Cameron, so I can sympathize with the gals out there who hesitate before stepping out in shorts all summer long — however, that shouldn’t stop anyone from trying this trend — you don’t have to have legs like Blake Lively, (although it also definitely doesn’t hurt!) to look amazing in a pair of shorts, it’s all about how you put your look together! For example, when Cameron Diaz stepped out this morning to appear on the Today Show in NYC, she looked super stylish in shorts and a pale blue blazer, however, when Kate Gosselin was out running errands in Reading on Jun. 21, her get-up was far from fashionable! While the actress looked super chic, wearing complementary colors and a long gold necklace, Kate’s attempt at a black and white outfit looked poorly put together. You’re better off keeping a look simple, wearing shorts and a tee, and adding a funky accessory for some extra oomph. You’ll look effortless, rather than like you’re trying to hard.

It looks like Kate’s definitely getting more dolled up than usual when she’s out and about, although her style choice was so wrong yesterday! If you want to wear shorts during the day, it’s best to tone down the trend and opt out of wearing a plunging top, like Kate’s booby-bearing halter. You can still show off your arms in a tank but it doesn’t have to be so overly sex-ed up! If you really want to look stylish, go for a fun floral top or summery stripes. Cameron put her long legs on display, but knew to keep it more conservative on top to balance out the look. If you’re going out at night and you want to sex up your shorts it’s fine, but not for the store, Kate!

Kate’s poor choice of footwear also doesn’t help her case. You don’t need to have sky high gams to rock shorts, but if your legs are on the shorter side you shouldn’t wear a shoe that cuts you off at the leg, like Kate’s sandals that extend over the ankle. You can look just as sexy in a pair of wedges that aren’t so restrictive — believe it or not, the mom of eight would’ve actually looked better in a simple flat! Don’t get me wrong, a heel or wedge will always make you appeal slimmer, as long as it flatters the leg. If you’re best with long gams like Cam, feel free to experiment with your choice of footwear.

I also think Kate would’ve been better off with a pair of shorts that weren’t rolled up — it draws more attention to her thighs. Next time, she’s better off tucking in a top and belting a pair of unrolled shorts for a more streamlined look.

Check out these stylish shorts that you can easily take from day to night and take note of these useful tips! As long as you feel comfortable and confident in your get-up, you’ll look amazing!
