Oprah Winfrey boldly claims the 18-year-old Filipino singer is ‘the most talented girl in the world!’ Do you agree? You might after checking out her impressive resume!

In the last 24-hours, an 18-year-old Filipino girl named Charice Pempengco has dominated our news feeds. Not only is she a trending topic on Twitter, but she’s landed a recurring role on Fox’s hit show, Glee – and Oprah Winfrey is even re-airing her ‘Most Talented Girl in the World’ special tonight, June 22.

Who exactly IS this pint-sized performer with pipes more powerful than Whitney Houston’s and Celine Dion’s combined? In case your head’s been buried in the sand, here’s everything you need to know about Charice!

Hometown: Cabuyao, Laguna, Philippines

How’d she get her start in showbiz?
Charice competed in talent competitions to help support her family after her mom bravely left her abusive father. Like Justin Bieber, YouTube made her an instant singing sensation, enough so that Oprah Winfrey came calling, and set her up with legendary music producer David Foster.

How famous IS she?
Since May 2008, Charice’s career has skyrocketed. She’s performed with the best singers in the world, including Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, been featured on Oprah multiple times, entertained President Obama (twice!) and released three albums. In fact, Charice is the first Asian in history to land in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. She’s not messin’ around!

Why should you care?
Not only does Charice have talent (seriously, her voice will give you the chills!), this teenager has heart. She’s bubbly, entertaining and seemingly super-sweet. In addition, Charice has never received any formal musical training and her rags to riches story is classic. Who doesn’t love a Cinderella story?

Yes, she will definitely go down in history as the most naturally talented singer ever!!! No words can give her justice. She probably has the most number of standing ovations in history with all the millions of crowds she has already performed in front of. And she’s just starting!!! Thank the universe for this rare and precious gift!

Charice is like any ordinary filipinos who can sing. It just happened that she was on u-tube and got the attention of Ellen. Labeling her as an International Star is a joke. She has no originality. She’s trying very hard to be like the American teen singers but she doesnt know that Hollywood is cruel. You need to be the best before you’re given a shot. Getting some slots from Glee doesnt mean that she’s a Glee or an international star. She needs to go back to her country and made it well there before labeling herself a Star. Too ambitious for a copy cat.

NO. Charice lacks originality and an identity. She’s more of a copycat as opposed to (dubious and preposterous claim)of being the most talented girl(sic) in the world.

Ha ha, cardcrusher, you’re really obsessed with putting down Charice, aren’t you? You’ve posted in all the sites I’ve visited where Charice is shown or written about, and I’m a fan. You’ve got an incredible obsession. Or perhaps you just want to get noticed – because by hitting on someone as hot as Charice, you do get noticed, and that’s probably what you want.

Not only that Charice is the most talented girl in the world but she is also the most amazing and endearing star of this generation. She is the sweetest and most humble artist I have ever known. Oprah, Charice fairy God Mother & # 1 fan was right when she pulled her off the plane (literally stopping the plane) because she cannot stop thinking about this child, who’s powerful voice reduced her to tears and gave her goosebumps. I love Charice Cinderella life story. I read somewhere that when midnight strikes or when she feels sleepy, she loses her voice but when she wakes up, her beautiful voice is back. Isn’t this a true to life cinderella story, I thought this will be good material for the the big screen.
Charice will be back on Glee’s episode 6, so don’t forget to watch.

One of the most talented people in the world. Coupled with a great heart, a strong work ethic and a hoard of loyal fans who try to follow her example of sincerity, humility and perseverance. She has the talent that can blow you away and melt your heart at the same time and she is one of the few artists in the world who you would genuinely want to see reach the very top.

Most Talented Girl in the Milky Way…She is an alien…Watch her singing Celine Dione’s “My heart will go on” at 9 years old…And how come a voice so big at different frequencies comes out from a tiny body…

I totally agree…and she’s awesome in all her performances. She’s a multi-talented girl actually. She can play guitar, piano, mimic various voices, do all of the three chipmunks voices, and she can dance gracefully. She’s also very humble and mingles with her fans with no pretense.

I believe she is! I am just in awe of a girl, who despite the dark things that she had to go through in her childhood. Made the best of everything and believed in her dreams. Others with weaker spirit would have resorted to drugs, alcoholism, prostitution, and what not.

Aside from that Charice shows generosity at very young age. She is already involved in many charity works. I just learned that when Charice won a television set as prize from a singing competition at age 12, she donated the TV in her school thinking the school needs it more than her family. At age 16, she sponsored and send three less fortunate students to education helping, assisting their parents who can´t afford to pay for their tuition. She is truly a very sensible and talented for her age.

“She is already involved in many charity works.” She may have awed me and mesmerized me with her talent and performances but her hear and generosity has moved and inspired me. She sponsors Seven children through world Vision which motivated me to sponsor one as well. She is an ambassador for Operation smile and performs at multiple charitable events all under the radar without much publicity. She celebrates her important 18th birthday by inviting 300 kids to an amusement park and performing for them and having fun with them on a private performance.

I think she really is. She decided at age 4 in which path she want to be. She knows her goal, she wants to help her mother and brother, wants to sing and she sticks to it. She did her best to educate herself, work hard to make it happen. She stays home after work, she wants to learn more instead enjoying her free time with friends. Compare to some young girls in her generation who are concentrating more on sex, boys, drinking, drugs, spends their money buying unnecessary things, attending to every party in town, Charice is spending her time taking courses online and planning what is her future. She said it herself, every success she is enjoying will not be forever. She might as well plan it now.

i didn’t know the oprah connection, but saw the david foster pbs thing where she sang a ditty. i knew we’d be seeing more of her. she looked pretty well trained and groomed even back then. it’s hard to imagine that she came from such humble beginnings, the way she carried herself. i wish her the best and hope fame doesn’t change her too much on the inside.
