Angie makes a surprise visit Ecuador on Thursday and continued on to Haiti over the weekend.
Angelina Jolie traveled to a village on Ecuador’s border to draw attention to the abuses suffered by women and children refugees before traveling to Haiti on Saturday.
The United Nations posted a public service announcement from the actress last week, in which she urges people to think about refugees as World Refugee Day – which was June 20 – approached. The clip includes an interview with a local woman who survived the violent conditions in Columbia.
“It’s been eight years since I was last here and UNHCR’s presence has grown considerably,” says Angelina, in a statement discussing her trip to Ecuador. “I am so happy to be able to reconnect with some familiar faces, refugees I had met with during my 2002 trip,” she said.
Angelina has been a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador since 2001.
This weekend, many of the children at the SOS Children’s Village in Haiti welcomed Angelina with a Creole song as she distributed toys. In February she met with orphans and other earthquake victims, but she returned for meetings with Haitian and UN officials.

She isn’t a great person. The things you do in your personal life, not in the public eye, are what make you great person…But I have to concede, she brings attention where it is needed, regardless if it is for her own image or not, the cause is also in the spotlight.
