Lorenzo admits The Bachelor & Bachelorette is less about love, and more about “ratings — it’s genius!”
So much for The Bachelorette being a show about finding love. It’s totally not! It’s all about “ratings,” season nine Bachelor Lorenzo Borghese tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “Usually scandals equal higher ratings and therefore it makes sense [the drama queens get] kept around.”
That’s exactly what’s happening on this season’s The Bachelorette, starring Ali Fedotowsky. Producers of the show reportedly kept loser Frank Neuschaefer, 31, around until the third-to-last episode just because they knew his “secret scandal” would attract attention. The whole time Ali was falling in love with this man, ABC KNEW he had a girlfriend back at home named Nicole with whom he was in love. They even caught him on tape secretly meeting up with Nicole while he and Ali were on their hometown visit, yet neglected to inform Ali that they knew about the whole situation.
“It’s genius,” Lorenzo explains of this scenario. “Let’s face it, ABC is in business to make money. Everyone knows that scandals, lies and betrayals equal ratings. I would imagine their ideal season would be filled with tons of train wrecks ending in a proposal.”
The show’s host, Chris Harrison, even admits that the show rigs the roses. “We always know” who is going to be picked, he told Entertainment Weekly. The bachelor or bachelorette “decides who is staying, and we usually decide the order they’re called in just for more drama!”
So, if this is common knowledge that ABC rigs the roses, then why do people continue to participate in the show? “I was optimistic,” explains Lorenzo of why he went on the show, “but I was also cautious. I was open to it — I was interested in meeting new people.”
Unfortunately for Lorenzo, the show didn’t introduce him to the love of his life. “These shows have success in building friendships,” but that’s it, admits Lorenzo.
Even though ABC works hard to make The Bachelorette all about drama, we still hope Ali manages to find love this season. After all, that’s the real reason fans tune in!
