Shocking! Although he was on-board with the idea just one day ago, Laurence Sunderland now says Abby’s reality show is NOT happening — because the producers wanted her dead!
Just yesterday Laurence Sunderland proudly announced there would be a reality show highlighting his 16-year-old daughter Abby’s sailing trip around the world, but after receiving tons of criticism and “balloon dad” comparisons, he conveniently announced the show is no longer happening. Eat your words much?
“There is no show at this time, nor will there be,” Laurence told reporters in front of his home in Thousand Oaks, Calif. today, June 14.
The show, which he said would be about “inspiring kids doing inspirational things,” got the ax because of creative differences with the production company, Magnetic Entertainment, Laurence claimed.
How quickly the honeymoon has ended…just yesterday, Mr. Sunderland and his family were destined for fame in Hollywood, but now he says Magnetic Entertainment was trying to exploit them. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
“They were assuming Abigail was going to die out there,” the Laurence proclaimed, referring to his underaged daughter’s failed solo attempt to sail the circumference of the world. “They were relying on her dying, and so we cut ties.”
Laurence’s press conference today was in stark contrast to the interview he gave the New York Post just one day prior, in which he bragged about his “daredevil” kids and discussed shopping “Adventures in Sunderland” around to various production companies. How did so much change in just one day? Did Laurence really become hyper-concerned about exploiting his daughter — or did he get too much criticism and back out of the deal?
From the looks of it, Mr. Sunderland didn’t get the reaction he hoped — and it’s back to the drawing board for the Sunderland family now that this big opportunity has sailed away!

The Magnetic Entertainment guy was on tv today saying he pulled out because it was too dangerous. Not enough fuel, etc. He seems more sincere than Dad was on Larry King.
