The 16-year-old who wanted to be the youngest sailor to sail all the way around the world has been found after losing radio contact for a harrowing 24 hours!
Abby Sunderland has been found!
Sunderland, 16, hit rough seas and, apparently, her boat tipped amidst a storm and her mast broke — but the boat, called the Wild Eyes, didn’t sink.
According to Abby’s official website, the French fishing vessel that was sent to pick her up “will be there in a little over 24 hours,” as of last night. “Where they will take her or how long it will take we don’t know,” says the website.
“I think I knew in my heart she was okay, but your mind does play out different scenarios,” her mother, MaryAnne Sunderland, told Good Morning America June 11. “It was a very, very difficult few hours.”
Choosing prudence over global circumnavigation, Abby’s journey will end after her rescue.

I don’t think she should have been allowed to sail around the world herself, until she is a little older. She was lucky this time and I am very glad that she is alright. I applaud her for her bravery, but I it was not to bright to go off by herself like that. I don’t care how much experience a person in this field has, nobody should be out there alone.
