What Caused Al & Tipper's Split? Friends INSIST There's No Cheating!

After the shocking news that one of politics’ most steadfast couples are separating, the question had to be asked — what split them up?

The Gores’ friends and other background sources insist that the former vice president, 62, and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Tipper” Gore, 61, have just “grown apart.” What’s more, according to Politico, the pair simply didn’t spend time together and their extensive travel schedules kept them away from one another and their family.

However, almost to staunch the inevitable flow of rumor and speculation, friends have also told anyone who asked that there was “no suggestion of infidelity.” And over the course of their 40-year marriage, not even the hint of scandal has tainted their relationship, unlike so many couples around them.

It was “a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration,” the Gores said as per an emailed statement obtained by the Associated Press and Politico.

The Gores have been married since May 19, 1970 and are parents to Karenna, Kristin, Sarah LaFon and Albert Gore III.
