Sultry summer looks are all about rich, warm colors, learn how you can copy Shantel VanSanten’s coppery smoky eye!
Looking forward to the long weekend? I know I am! I’m also looking forward to summer-izing my makeup looks. That means, no more black smoky eyes for a while. So, what else is there? Pretty, copper, sunset-like lids like the “reverse” smoky eye One Tree Hill star Shantel VanSanten wore to the LG Mobile in LA on May 24. “Shantel and I were inspired by her nude and black lace Rebecca Minkoff dress so we knew we wanted to do something edgy and strong, but in softer, more feminine colors,” celebrity makeup artist Amy Nadine Rosenberg says. (She’s Lauren Conrad‘s main makeup gal, BTW!) “A traditional smoky eye with its grey and black tones has its place, but using the same technique with coppers and bronzes creates a softer look that doesn’t take away any of the attention from who she is,” Amy explains.
To get her look, Amy put a twist on the traditional dark lid. “A smoky eye is a lighter shade on the lid with a darker shade blended in the crease, but a “reverse smoky eye” is applying the darker shade as a color wash along the lid (bronze color) then the lighter shade (copper/topaz) in the crease, creating a “sunset” effect,” Amy explains. “Don’t forget to trace the lighter shade along the lower lash line as well. Then, to really make your eyes more piercing, rim your waterline with a black liner,” Amy says. She finished off Shantel’s look with a coat of mascara, a dusting of bronzer and a gorgeous, golden gloss. - Marta Topran
