Oh, no! We don’t know what’s worse — the heartbreak of losing the American Idol crown or losing the man you love!
The show must go on! Crystal Bowersox’s performance of ‘Up to the Mountain’ was so emotional and heartfelt May 25, we assumed she was just living in the moment. But perhaps the song had so much meaning to the dreadlocked singer because she was in the process of going through a major breakup!
“Big Tony… he went home,” Crystal, 24, said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show May 27, the day after placing second to Lee DeWyze on the American Idol, referring to now ex-boyfriend, Tony Kusian.
The reason for the split?
“He wasn’t cool with the lifestyle [of being a public personality],” the single mom said, admitting she was “a little sad he did it on performance day,” but “it set that fire in [her] belly” for the competition that night.
What a bittersweet week for Crystal! First she lost her boyfriend — and then she lost the Idol crown to Lee.

Crystal has been great all season! I really mean GREAT!! The only thing that Lee has is a bunch of Teenie’s who develope crushes very quickly. Their vote is rarely based on talent. Its “OH he is really cute” and so fourth. They say this show is more than just about good artistry. However, the judges councel mainly on vocals and the “Big Notes”. I wish there was a way to keep the imature teenie from voting, it always skews the result from true artistry to: Oh did you see his hair! His Eyes! He’s Soooooooooo Cute! This is the second season where the contestant with beautifully gifted god given talent down to a “NO WIN” out come. I’m very close to not watching next season American Idol. I’m tired of seeing the wrong person win for all the wrong reasons! Le showed his true colors during the final. It was more representitive of what he did all season. I don’t care what anybody says Lee just didn’t belong winning the title!!!!! As for Crystal having to break up with boy firend on the night of the finals…well it just shows how strong Crystal really is. She went on and performed to use Simons term; “Outstandingly”
