Jesse James blames his infidelity on the child abuse he suffered as a child.

Jesse James appeared on Nightline on May 25, and claimed that years of abuse suffered at the hands of his father led him to cheat on wife Sandra Bullock. “I grew up with a huge amount of shame and fear and abandonment on my shoulders from a very young age and I think, you know, the way my mind rationalized it, ‘Well, you know, I might as well do whatever I can to like run her off cause she is going to find out what I am anyway and leave me anyway,'” he told interviewer Vicki Mabrey.

Jesse said of his father: “I was petrified of my dad … It wasn’t so much getting the s*** beat out of me or getting my arm broken or getting kicked or whatever or punched, it was the in-between time. It was the fear of that happening again. I was a terrorized kid.” He then recalls once particular instance: “I tripped over this little low fence wire and snapped my wrist and I remember my dad laughed at me when I hit the ground and called me a dummy.”

Jesse said the abuse has become harder now when he looks at his children, like 7-year-old Sunny who he says is at the same age he was when his father broke his arm.

He said it was this abuse that led him to self-sabotage his life, feeling like he was an incomplete person and not capable of being loved. He firmly denied that he was in any way a sex addict. He claims he was simply trying to push someone away he knew would leave anyway.
