Idol’s sexy blond rocker was well aware that there would be a Lee/Crystal showdown during the season finale!

Casey James knew what America was thinking this week — it was his time to go home!

“I’ve been prepared at every single round from the beginning of the show, because you never know,” the 27-year-old Texan said May 21 during an American Idol conference call. “What will be, will be, and you have to be prepared either way. I kind of knew this was coming, so I was more than prepared [Wednesday] night.”

If you thought Casey looked happy with his placement May 19, you were right. “Every single time I made it through I was elated and happy. I think everything happens for a reason, and I’m exactly where I should be. I’m super happy to be here.”

The 6’3 rocker is also happy with his choice to go shirtless during his audition, and defended that bold decision during the call. “Who’s to say that I would be here had I not done that?” he wondered. “I think that if you feel like you can back yourself up and not be the guy that took his shirt off — because hopefully that’s not what I am now — I would say do what you need to do to get the ball rolling.”

Casey couldn’t talk enough about his music or his joy at being on the show, but when it came to describing what he loved about final two contestants Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, he was at a loss. “I don’t know, man,” he answered helplessly. “You guys see as much of them as I do, to be honest with you. There’s so little time.”

I hope Idol gives Casey a recording contract in exchange for his laying down under the bus. This season of Idol has left me with a particularly bad taste in my mouth.
