We just watched Bret on Oprah and he got us to tear up while listening to the story of his near-death brain hemorrhage! Even his adorable and incredibly mature daughter, Raine, 9, came on and spoke about almost losing her dad !
Bret Michaels, 47, is a rockstar for LIFE! The Poison frontman appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show May 19 and told her why he didn’t take off his bandana when he was lying in the ICU after an almost life ending brain hemorrhage on Apr. 21! “It’s like superman with the cape,” says Bret. “I said if I’m going to go out I want to go out rocking NOT in a hospital gown.”
Bret was released from the hospital Apr. 30 after suffering a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage and spending almost two weeks in the ICU at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Az. But the current finalist on Donald Trump‘s Celebrity Apprentice says he has a new-found appreciation for life.
“It puts things in perspective really quickly,” he admits. “It truly happened to me … you begin thinking about your family, kids, best friends. You’re not thinking about your career .You’re thinking let me live through this! You’re thinking I really want to take care of my family, kids, and be alive to still talk about it.”
The father of two girls, Raine, 9, and Jorja, 5 says he began talking to God. “I was doing a lot of asking … I told God I’ve done a lot of rotten things in my life but I’m asking for a break here … If you could cut me a break just this time.”
Bret’s daughter , Raine, was pre-taped on the show with her perspective on what happenend AND man, is this little girl, mature for her age! Raine is only 9-years-old but she was able to very clearly articulate exactly how she felt when her dad was rushed to the hospital. She even talked about being upset when thinking her dad wouldn’t be able to walk her down the aisle! Now that brought Bret AND us to tears.
“I said I’m not going to cry but that got me … I got the lump in my throat,” he says after listening to his daughter speak. “I don’t know what that reason is [for being alive] just yet but who ever blessed me … whatever guardian angel … I am just very thankful to be here.”
Even though Bret has agreed to go back on tour May 28, for a show at the Hard Rock Cafe in Mississippi he admits he has a long road ahead.
“I asked my doctor to up it to two rehabs a day,” he says. “The lower extremities and neck are very stiff and the headaches are still there.”
Bret, you really are one of the lucky ones – your doc said on the show that only 20 per cent of brain hemorrhage victims recover fully like you will -,and we are thrilled that you are doing well and on the road to a healthy recovery.
“I’m so happy to be able to sit here and talk to you and be alive and just enjoy every second of my life,” he says. “I thank the good Lord and guardian angel that this didn’t take me out.”
Bret’s Celebrity Apprentice cast mates taped special messages for Bret that also moved him to tears. CHECK OUT WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY AND CHECK OUT THE SEASON FINALE MAY 23 ON NBC!
Sharon Osbourne: “I think about his kids he is such a happy person … if you think that it happens to him, that could happen to my husband, it could happen to me … Hurry up and get your butt back to LA and I want to give you a big hug and see those gorgeous blue eyes.”
Holly Robinson Peete: “He’s the kind of guy you call when your car runs out of gas. We bonded … it’s real and it’s forever. Smell a few roses dude.”
Donald Trump: “I felt terrible … here is a guy fighting back like crazy. You’re special a real fighter … a competitor.”
