Remember the days when you had movie stars, television actors, and theater actors? Now EVERYONE is a theater actor … and celebrities are scooping up all the awards!

Take a look at the 2010 Tony Award nominees — and you’ll notice that most of them have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Celebrities and movie stars stole the show at today’s Tony award nominations, the coveted awards bestowed on Broadway and play actors each year. But unlike years past, when a little known name could shoot to stardom by winning a Tony — this year’s nominees are already household names!

Big celebs were nominated for a Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play award, including Jude Law (“Hamlet”), Liev Schreiber (“A View from the Bridge”) Christopher Walken (“A Behanding in Spokane”) and Denzel Washington (“Fences”). And the list goes on!

Laura Linney was nominted for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play “Time Stands Still” along with Valerie Harper for her performance in “Looped.”

Kelsey Grammer (“La Cage aux Folles”) and Sean Hayes (“Promises, Promises”) both snagged nominations for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical  and the Catherine Zeta-Jones (“A Little Night Music”) was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical.

Other nominees included David Alan Grier in “Race,” Scarlett Johansson in “A View from the Bridge,” and Angela Lansbury in “A Little Night Music.”

Do you think celebs are taking over the Tony Awards? And do they deserve all the attention?
