K-Stew fans, can you believe this? We KNOW you don’t want to see this huge role go to Carey!

BFFs — when we polled you earlier this month, a whopping 83 percent of you said you’d rather see Kristen Stewart, 20, play computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the movie adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books over Carey Mulligan, 24. But now the UK’s Times Online is reporting that Carey, a huge fan of the Dragon books, is inching ahead in the competition — she’s even won over the family of the book series’ author, Stieg Larsson!

Lisbeth, the books’ leading lady, is a rough-around-the-edges bisexual — a role K-Stew is all too familiar with (Runaways, anyone?) The book was already made into a movie in Sweden, but this new American version is going to be a BIG deal. If done right, we think the role could even be Oscar potential for Carey or Kristen!

Here’s what a few of you told us earlier this month in support of your girl K-Stew:

  1. emma: Kristen should get the part for many obvious reasons. … Kristen all the way. No arrongance, no over the top attitude, a very wise, dedicated, and polite young woman. she should get it !!!!
  2. brynne: the obviously choice is K.Stew. If you’ve seen the Runaways and her other movies then you know that the girl can act. Carey is amazing but she wouldn’t carry this role.
  3. Kate: I’ve read the books and I can not see Carey in the role – she looks too sweet and delicate. Kristen would rock this role…she’s edgy, gorgeous and definitely has the right attitiude.

Keep showing your support for K-Stew, BFFs! It ain’t over till that contract is signed!

If we go by box office as some of you seem to be doing, then Kristen would win. Carey hasn’t had a box office hit yet. She is not the right choice for this role. Kristen may not be right either. I say cast an unknown actress.

Someone do your research. Carey didn’t get the part. Someone just posted it on her IMDB page. The producer of the movie, Scott Rudin, said it was untrue that she’s playing Lisberth. KStew could definitely rock the role, but I want her in something that’s not a remake for her first action debut since Panic Room.

If you want your hackers covered in vampire sparklies, then sure, go with Kristen.

But for solid acting, it’s gotta be Carrie.

oh come on! Carey and Kristen are great actresses but I think Carey is so much better! She was nominated for an oscar and Kristen is SO OVERRATED just because she is in twilight and she has a lot of crazy fans.

Go watch “Blink” a Season 3 episode of the revived series of Doctor.

Or you could go watch that movie she was nominated for Best Actress for.

Just because Kristen Stewart *looks* the part, doesn’t mean she should get it. And anyway, Carey Mulligan must have won everyone over for a *reason*.

There was nothing but rumors and gossip to suggest that Kristen was even up for this role. Her name was mentioned along with Natalie Portman, Ellen Page and Keira Knightley.

I was in NY 3 weeks ago saw the runaways and this kristen stewart just blew my mind.People in the theaters were amazed too.I think twilight is a huge crap but kristen stewart is a terrific actress. she doesn’t need to do another franchise.I don’t think “wanted” will be a good thing for her career.i don’t care about critics, i saw the movie and liked it. she is an A list actress now ..it’s nothing but a matter of time for her to get a role.. this naomi rapace kicked ass in the original version of the “girl with dragon tatoo” , carey is talented but won’t do a better job.I think kristen deserves better than it

Kristen Stewart has the acting ability of a gnat. She always looks like a sullen teenager that never smiles. As my Dad would put it “she’s always looking out through her mouth”.

Carrie Mulligan has been in a range of british films and tv dramas and definately can transform herself no matter what the role requires.

Kristen has been offered a lot of roles lately. But she is unable to take on the role because of her busy schedule. She will film Breaking Dawn 1 this fall, then she has 2 other project to do next year, in addition to promotion for Breaking Dawn 1, then filming Breaking Dawn 2. I don’t think she has any time left for another project.

I am extremely disappointed that the part went to Carey. Kristen is the obvious choice to play Lisbeth Salander. It was because of this possibility that I purchased and read the book. I have nothing against Carey Mulligan—I saw An Education and she was great in it—-but she has that same giggle that she had when she played the youngest sister in Pride and Prejudice—and I think she is too “cutsie” for the part. I will not see the movie if remade with Carey as the lead—it will spoil the book for me.

The Runaways has the rate R and a limited release. It is a biopic story. If you compare to the same rate R category. The Runaways is ahead. In addition, The Runaways has a lot of foreign buyers, it will be opened in many different countries in the next coming months (more info. on IMDB). For a small budget indie. That’s a success. By the way, The Runaways is adapted from Cherrie’s books, so Dakota is the main character not Kristen.

According to many reports, Kristen was approached for this role. But if you look at her IMDB, she already has 2 other projects lined up. Breaking Dawn will be filmed this fall but the timing isn’t completely confirmed. I think the schedules are really conflict. BTW, there is already another remake by Swissden shown in U.S right now. I don’t know it will be a good idea to remake again.

I do agree with those comments here. Kristen is better to play this role. But I don’t want another remake.

sorry to burst your bubble, but Runaways flopped and that is why the distributor CANCELLED the wide release, cause it was a flop in limited release! Kristen premiered 2 films this year: Runaways, which cost 10 mil & yellow handcerchief which cost 16mil! Fo check Box Office mojo to see what the films made…yeah, one worst than the other…uber flops! Face it, if it ain’t Twi related, people just don’t care! And she hasn’t the talent Carey has, so yeah, it was an easy choice for the studio&the director!

Kristen Stewart does not the acting range or any acting skills at all to do this role any justice. Aside from looks, she sucked at Joan Jett in The Runaways. It was like she was trying too hard to be punk and not trying enough to give any sort of performance worth watching. She should keep to movies for 13 year olds like Twilight, where she was pretty awful.

Carey has the acting range to play a role like this and give an outstanding performance.

I disagree with you and so do the film critics. A lot of film critics have praised her great performances for the Joan Jett role. If you review the roles that Kristen took in the past films, you will see the versatile range of choices. She can do drama, action and comedy.

And?? Just because a handful of critics like her, it doesn’t mean the average person has to. I’ve seen her work (Twilight and non-Twilight films), and her acting isn’t anything special. Stewart is overrated.

It was more than a handful of critics, it was the vast majority. If you didn’t like the performance, you have a right to your opinion. I saw her Joan Jett and for me it wasn’t even like Kristen was acting, she just lived and breathed the role, tough and tender with a passion for performing just like the real Joan.

you are WRONG! Many many many critics disliked her film; it’s very funny that her fans think that The Runaways is some sort of masterpiece&Kristen was uber praised in it! Cause she wasn’t; both Kristen and the film as a whole got mixed reviews, which means: some said they were OK&some said they weren’t OK, so yeah…mediocre al the way!!

The movie itself received 63% on Rotten Tomatoes (68% from Top Critics) which is still pretty good since it’s difficult for a movie to get a fresh rating. But even when the movie received a bad review, the performances from Kristen, Dakota and Michael were praised.

RT Consensus: “Viewers expecting an in-depth biopic will be disappointed, but The Runaways is as electric as the band’s music, largely thanks to strong performances from Michael Shannon, Dakota Fanning, and Kristen Stewart.”

Looking back at your link, there were some Carey Mulligan supporters in the comments section, too. It’s curious that you didn’t post any of them…

Runaways didn’t do too well at the box office. It had both Kristen and her Twilight co-star, Dakota Fanning. Kristen was able to play an edgier role in an R-rated movie and the Twillight fan base didn’t follow. Perhaps that’s given the studio cold feet?

I stand by my previous statement: Carey Mulligan is the superior of the two actresses.
