We’re SO thrilled that Conan O’Brien is coming back to late night TV! BUT — how could he push George Lopez’s show back an hour after he was so mad at NBC for doing the SAME thing to him?!
Score one for Team Coco! Conan O’Brien — who was pushed out of The Tonight Show on NBC last year — is going to be hosting “a new show on TBS,” confirms The New York Times.
The new, still un-named show, will air weeknights at 11 pm starting in November … which pushes George Lopez‘ Lopez Tonight to midnight.
Wait … isn’t a midnight air time the very reason Conan refused to stay at The Tonight Show? Guess he doesn’t mind doing to Lopez what NBC and Jay Leno tried to do to him, when they wanted to push The Tonight Show to 12:05 am to make room for The Jay Leno Show!
George won’t be too upset though! Having Conan as his lead-in will surely boost Lopez Tonight‘s ratings! And unlike what happened at NBC, The Wrap reports that George gave the go-ahead for Conan to take his spot before the network made an offer.
Conan’s reps “had been quietly talking with” TBS, reports the Times, while at the same time trying to negotiate a deal with Fox, which fell through. And the best news for Conan? He is staying in L.A., so he won’t have to move his kids again, according to Deadline.com. Oh yeah, and he’s reportedly getting a whopping $10 million upfront for the show, which he will own.
Even our new fave comedian Justin Bieber is excited about the news! He tweeted, “@ConanOBrien congrats on the new show … curse you for your incredible charm and stylish hair that puts my mop to shame.” —Corynne Steindler

Context people! I know you want a sensationalist headline, but there is a difference.
The reason Conan wouldn’t yield the 11:35 time slot was because he was hosting a little show called “The Tonight Show” and to mess with a historic show like that because of the Jay-Conan feud wasn’t going to stand. Conan had also waited 5 years to take over the show and was promised the 11:35 timeslot.
So how is the Lopez situation different?
Lopez is willing to move his show because he knows with a Conan lead in he will have a bigger audience. Lopez’s show is not an American television institution, and moving the time slot is not showing disrespect to the tradition of the show. Lopez is OK with the move. Again, Lopez is not upset.
If you think that the two situations are similar in any ways other than superficial, then you are just trying to create a controversy where it doesn’t exist.
