Jim’s chronic depression and anger became too much for Jenny — friends say she couldn’t handle the “emotional roller coaster!”

Jim Carrey might play the role of the happy-go-lucky guy in photos and on the big screen, but pals say the actor’s extreme depression was too much for his long-time partner Jenny McCarthy — and ultimately led to their break up April 4, reports Star.

“Jim is not easy to be with. He has a lot of problems with depression,” a friend explained to Star about the couple’s split. “It was such an emotional roller coaster for her. When he’d get really down, he’d just disappear. He would hide out in a hotel or one of his homes, not answering her calls.”

Even before his relationship started with Jenny, Jim, 48, battled his emotional ‘demons,’ admitting in 2004 he’d turned to Prozac to curb his intense highs and lows.

37-year-old Jenny — who’s also a single mom to her seven-year-old autistic son, Evan — put up with Jim’s erratic behavior for five years but ultimately decided it was too much, so it seems.

Both Jenny and Jim tweeted April 6 about their break up, saying they were “grateful” for their time together. Although Jenny wrote she’ll always keep “Jim as the leading man in [her] heart,” a pal says she’s ready to move on and explore other fish in the sea.

“She knows she can still find someone to share her life with and make her happy. No matter what happens, she hopes her future will be brighter without Jim,” the source said.

I always thought Jim needed a good doctor. Most comics are way different people in private – and they fear medication will kill the goose that lays the golden egg. See a competent shrink Jim. It’s worth whatever you have to pay. Life will be so much improved for you AND all the people around you.

Jim is a happy guy since he make his fans happy! Is this not a great artist want?! Why we need to judge him if he wants to break up a relationship?! He is a free person with free feelings, desires, and choices. If he “is” a depressed person, who at least is not?!

Jim Carrey is from Canada, and Jenny McCarthy is from Chicago. Close enough! These two crazy kids are both very talented, and they each have an excellent sense of humor, and good natural intelligence. Marriage takes work, and sometimes, skating across the rough patches of ice. Just because you live in Hollywood, are a movie star celebrity, and have lots of money, does not mean you do not have to work at your marriage. Jim, I will date Jenny, while you take the time, and make the effort, to win her back, fella.

I wonder if she convinced him that he doesn’t need antidepressants, the same way she feels vaccines are evil.

if it was his depression that caused it, it was probably more about her not thinking that appropriate for her son to witness than her not having the strength to deal with it. as damaged adults, all of us can handle a lot of baggage in the name of love- that doesn’t mean we want our kids to be around it. feel sad for them both if this is true, but it sounds like a good reason for a breakup when a child is involved.
