Jim’s chronic depression and anger became too much for Jenny — friends say she couldn’t handle the “emotional roller coaster!”
Jim Carrey might play the role of the happy-go-lucky guy in photos and on the big screen, but pals say the actor’s extreme depression was too much for his long-time partner Jenny McCarthy — and ultimately led to their break up April 4, reports Star.
“Jim is not easy to be with. He has a lot of problems with depression,” a friend explained to Star about the couple’s split. “It was such an emotional roller coaster for her. When he’d get really down, he’d just disappear. He would hide out in a hotel or one of his homes, not answering her calls.”
Even before his relationship started with Jenny, Jim, 48, battled his emotional ‘demons,’ admitting in 2004 he’d turned to Prozac to curb his intense highs and lows.
37-year-old Jenny — who’s also a single mom to her seven-year-old autistic son, Evan — put up with Jim’s erratic behavior for five years but ultimately decided it was too much, so it seems.
Both Jenny and Jim tweeted April 6 about their break up, saying they were “grateful” for their time together. Although Jenny wrote she’ll always keep “Jim as the leading man in [her] heart,” a pal says she’s ready to move on and explore other fish in the sea.
“She knows she can still find someone to share her life with and make her happy. No matter what happens, she hopes her future will be brighter without Jim,” the source said.
