Miley Cyrus’ first big bid to be a serious actress — in The Last Song — didn’t burn up the box-office this weekend, pulling in an estimated $16 million this weekend.
Miley, you might want to reconsider that whole I’m-Never-Recording-Another-Album thing, since your movie career isn’t exactly exploding. The numbers on your weekend debut with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth of The Last Song are out, as Deadline.com reports, and it should gross around $16 million for the weekend.
By contrast, Amanda Seyfried and her own Nicholas Sparks-based film, Dear John, made $30 million in ticket sales in February, almost double Song‘s output. And you didn’t quite measure up to Jennifer Aniston‘s The Bounty Hunter unfurling, which made $20 million last weekend.
Here’s some good news: Your studio decided to release the film on Wednesday, a couple days earlier than normal, so it could make about $25 million in its first five days.
