Kate Winslet can’t leave the “house of horrors” apartment she shared with her soon-to-be ex-husband Sam Mendes. Wouldn’t you feel the same way?

Sure, owning a $6 million apartment sounds like living on Easy Street — but for Oscar winner Kate Winslet, the home she shared with estranged hubby Sam Mendes is a “house of horrors” that she can’t get out of just yet.

Kate — who is pictured above without her wedding ring —and Sam have lived in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City since 2005.  But now that they are splitting, “Kate really wants to leave the apartment,” reports Page Six. “She sees it as a house of horrors because of the fights she and Sam had there. She feels it is tainted.”

The home was the scene of many battles between the actress and her director husband, especially when they were filming Revolutionary Road.  She “felt uncomfortable being directed by her husband, while their similarly intense approach to work led to more arguments,” a source told Page Six. No wonder she wants doesn’t want to live there anymore!

However, Kate may not be able to leave so easily. The actress is starting to film a miniseries for HBO, called Mildred Pierce, which presumably does not leave her time to search for alternate housing.

Do you sympathize with Kate? Have you ever had to continue living in a home that was the scene of so many fights between you and an ex? —Corynne Steindler
