This is how good The Runaways was — I’m dying for the sequel.
The Runaways tells the real life story of revolutionary girl rocker Joan Jett in the ’70s, at a time when girls weren’t supposed to play a mean electric guitar.
Kristen Stewart gets out of Bella mode, and is completely convincing as the young, awkward Joan who’s determined to rock as hard as any guy with her new girl band, The Runaways. Dakota Fanning plays the David Bowie-obsessed 15-year-old Cherie Currie who gets recruited to be the blonde Bridget Bardot-inspired “ jailbait” that heats up the band’s sex appeal.
What’s great about this Joan Jett executive -produced film is that it doesn’t try to be a “Big Hollywood Movie.” It’s happy as a low-key insightful look at the birth of liberating in-your-face female rock n’ roll. The only problem is that it ends when The Runaways disintegrate. Now I want Kristen and Joan to come back and tell us all about the next chapter — Joan Jett and her band #2, The ” I Love Rock n Roll ” Blackhearts!

it’s hard to pick out who is most incredible in these photos, dakota or cherie. for that matter, the “no-names” in the real runaways band look INCREDIBLE! no offense intended for joan or kristen- but those no-names so capture that era! i must see this movie, pronto.
