How do you think Ellen is doing so far as an Idol judge?

Drew Carey has had more than his fair share of experience in the public eye as both a talk show and game show host, as well as a TV star. Now, The Price is Right emcee is offering up some encouraging words of advice to American Idol newbie Ellen DeGeneres – and says that no matter what happens, at least Ellen gave a new genre a shot!

“Whenever anybody steps into a spot where someone else was before, it’s always tough,” Drew, 51, told at the Alliance For Children’s Rights event in Hollywood March 15. He continued, “You’re going to get a lot of criticism, and it’s never going to be the same.”

He added, “People want you to do the same thing as the last person, but you can’t – you have to do your own thing and hope it gels, so I hope the best for Ellen.”

Nicely put Drew! Although the comedian does admit he STILL hasn’t gotten a chance to watch Ellen, 51, on American Idol, despite the fact that the Idol stage is right next door to where The Price is Right films, Drew plans on watching his pal ASAP!

We think Ellen is doing a great job on American Idol! What do YOU think?
