Bonnie Says: Farrah Fawcett Was Dissed By The Oscar Academy – It Was Outrageous!

Loading video...

Hey BFFs were you as shocked as I was when Farrah Fawcett‘s beautiful face DID NOT appear in the “In Memoriam” section of the Oscars broadcast on Sunday night, March 7?

I was live chatting the show and everyone joining in agreed that it was an epic oversight. How could the infamous Charlie’s Angel be dissed on the acting world’s biggest night of the year. Yea, yea, I know — way too may people die every year in the Hollywood world to make it into the highly exclusive memorial montage. But puhleeze — Farrah was not just anybody, she was an icon. Her death followed a highly public and brave battle with cancer. She influenced a generation – stylewise and chutzpah wise- far more than , let’s say- Brittany Murphy — did for her generation. Ryan O’Neal spoke to radaronline.com about his disappointment — I read his statement in my video below.

And you know what — Golden Girl Bea Arthur was a pretty enormous oversight as well. I don’t buy that the Academy agonized over these decisions. I actually think someone just plain forgot to include Farrah. Tell me what YOU think?

Farrah was an icon and most certainly should have been in the “In Memoriam”. It was bad enough that attention to her death was over shadowed by the death of Michael Jackson and now she is snubbed at the awards. Someone needs to be apologizing big time!!!!!!

Yes, I agree with you. The Academy has to give a public
apology to Mr. Ryan O’neal for ommiting a tribute during the Oscar Ceremony memorials to his famous y gerogous wife’s Mrs. Farrah Fawcett as well as the Golden Girl celeb.
Bea Arthur.

People need to STOP trashing MJ.He didn’t ask to be in that, and he had a great contribution to the movie industry.Farrah was great and YES is a shame that they didn’t included her,but is not because of MICHAEL,there were others that had nothing to do with the movie industry,if a remember correctly a journalist was included but nobody says nothing about that, they just keep on trashing MJ and that’s WRONG!!!
Stop putting him down just, because you don’t like him doesn’t mean he wasn’t a great!

Roger Ebert and Jane Fonda both say it was a mistake omitting Farrah Fawcett – need I say more?
Nobody in the entire world needed reminding of MJ’s passing – there have been a multitude of tributes and events to commemorate him – all ignoring his tarnished image.
Farrah fought a brave and dignified battle against cancer and unfortunately died on the same day as MJ – surely she deserved a mention? She did make a number of films – and was a huge icon.

Bea and Farrah have been duly remembered for their TV and stage work, but since neither of them were big in the movies, it’s totally understandable that they weren’t included in the memorial montage.

I think Bonnie needs to stick to print. I got one-third of the way through her blabbering on the live chat and she still hadn’t said anything of value… and it was god-awfully borrrring.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzz

If any commenters actually watched the video all the way through, can you tell us what she said that wasn’t already in the teaser? Thanks.

This is more than much ado about nothing.
Farrah should have been included.
She was well liked by millions of people
She was an icon
Bonnie fuller knows exactly what she is talking about
Why include Michael Jackson
He was a music legend with a few movies.
I guess the decent girl was left behind because they don’t care about someone who was a genuine nice person
Shame on you

If this isn’t much ado about nothing, I don’t know what is. Last night’s show was presented by the Academy of MOTION PICTURES Arts and Sciences. The people in the “In Memoriam” segment were MOVIE related. What a concept. Bea Arthur was an accomplished stage and television performer who was honored during last June’s Tony Awards and last September’s Emmy Awards. She wasn’t honored during last January’s Grammy Awards…because she wasn’t known as a musician! Farrah Fawcett was similarly mentioned during the Emmys. She was known as a television performer. For Ryan O’Neal to issue a statement saying that Farrah was a movie academy member for “over 40 years” is disingenuous at best and an outright lie to say the least. She had never made a movie in 1969. Heck, IMDB shows she had a bit part in an “Andy Griffith Show” episode in October of that year. I guess the Academy Awards were so boring that a “controversy” had to be manufactured by someone. That means you, Bonnie Fuller.

I have not been able to find any lists of movies (other than made-for t.v. movies) that Farrah or Bea were in. What big screen movies did they do? If they did, then they should have been included. If they did not perform, produce, write, or somehow help with the production of a big screen movie, then I still don’t think they should have been included. And if, in fact, they did not perform in any big screen movies, then yes, Michael Jackson, who did perform in a movie, had the edge over them, since that is what Oscar night is all about.

Farrah: Logan’s Run, The Apostle, Dr. T and the Women, Man of the House, Cannonball Run.

Bea: For Better or For Worse, History of the World Part I, Mame, Love and Other Strangers.

Micheal Jackson: The Wiz.

Farrah and Bea did far more movies (in addition to their TV work) than MJ ever did.

It the criteria was so strict, then how why was Michael Jackson included in the montage? His total contribution to movies was “The Wiz” and that was hardly any kind of blockbuster success. While Farrah and Bea may have been better known for what they did on TV and Broadway, they both had made movies during their respective careers and, while I agree Michael Jackson was a great talent, both Farrah and Bea had more of a right to be in that memorial montage that MJ did.

MJ had actual Movie credits which Farrah and Bea did not, They were well known for television credits that were not a part of the big screen cinema. Although we loved Farrah and Bea, why not throw in Gene Barry who’s filmography exceeds them all. MJ did 1. The Wiz (1978) He was featured in 6 of the movies soundtracks 2. Moonwalker (1988) 3. Ghosts (1996/97) 4. Most people don’t remember MJ had a cameo in ‘Men in Black II 5. ‘Captain EO’: Francis Ford Coppola directed this Disney theme parks 3-D movie, starring Jackson as the spaceship captain. 6. Famous movie soundtracks like ‘Ben,’ and ‘Will You Be There,’ from ‘Free Willy.’ And now 7. ‘This Is It’ no. 1 and topped the global box office charts. MJ produced, wrote, acted and directed. The Oscar committee knew that if they did not include MJ the blogosphere would have exploded. No DR to Farrah Fawcett, Bea Arthur, or Gene Barry but MJ’s star is in another galaxy.

I disagree. Neither Farrah’s nor Bea’s careers were connected to the big screen industry. When you look at their careers, they performed on television and broadway, and that’s where they succeeded. The award ceremonies that celebrate television and broadway actors (Emmys, Tonys) should (and probably did) pay their respects to these two actresses, and that seems more appropriate. I never would have expected to see either of them in the memmorial segment at the oscars.

I thought it was a little strange myself..but then I realized it was a memorandum to MOVIE stars. I know Farrah and Bea were TV stars but I am not quite sure if they ever made it to the big screen. I may be mistaken, but that is my theory behind it. I was shocked to see MJ but then remembered he was in The Wiz.

She influenced a generation – stylewise and chutzpah wise- far more than , let’s say- Brittany Murphy…that’s a cheap shot I don’t see what Murphy has to do with Facwett. If your beef is with the Oscar’s that’s one thing, but Brittany Murphy was talented and starred in much more movies than Farrah. But being that Farrah and Bea Arthur was snubbed it doesn’t take away their accomplishments…But I sense some hating on Brittany Murphy… ;)

the academy shouldn’t have to make an apology. bea and farrah should have been included but too bad this doens’t take away from anything they accomplished. michael jackson acted in a movie and 2 of his song were nominated weren’t they…ben and thriller, so he was member.

The Burning Bed, No not much of a movie, are they _ucking crazy.Maude, Golden Girls, are they, well you get it. If they forgot, they need to apologize. If they dissed, they need to apologize. If they agonized,I suggest they stop doing Acid and shots of JW Blue while agonizing. Replace them all and get the public involved, as they seem not to understand. They should be? Well you get it!

I agree with you about how wrong it was for them not to include Farrah and Bea, but don’t diss Brittany Murphy. I am 23 years old and she was a huge role model for me and my friends growing up (cluless, girl interrupted, don’t say a word, etc.) Just because she wasn’t part of your generation, DON”T DISRESPECT! She deserved to be honored too!!!!!!
