Lauren Graham On Her New TV Gig: Why My Role On 'Parenthood' Is So NOT Lorelai On 'Gilmore Girls!'

If you were expecting to see Lorelai Gilmore 2.0 on tonight’s premiere of Parenthood, you’re going to be disappointed!

We loved Lauren Graham as quirky, quick-witted and totally charming single mom Lorelai Gilmore on the CW’s Gilmore Girls, but the actress says her newest role as a recent divorcee on NBC’s upcoming dramedy Parenthood is as different from her former character as night and day.

“The tone of the show is so different,” Lauren, 42, told reporters Feb. 11, adding that you can’t even compare her old part to her new role as unhappy mom-of-two Sarah Braverman. “They don’t remind me of each other at all.”

As true Gilmore Girl devotees, we were kind of bummed to hear there’d be no trace of the most likeable TV mom ever in Parenthood, but Lauren reassured us she’s much happier working in an ensemble cast than carrying an entire show on her own.

“I’ve found this work really gratifying. It is more specific because [I’m] working with less material. Everything [I] do is really important,” she explained, adding, “I don’t see dawn as much as I did, which has been really enjoyable.”

If Lauren Graham alone doesn’t give you enough reason to check out Parenthood, the guys behind it — Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Friday Night Lights‘ creator Jason Katims — will.

Tune into the premiere of Parenthood tonight, March 2!

Would love to see a movie-there are some loose ends needing to be tied up. Esp L/L married and Rory returning home from her adventures as a journalist. Who will she end up w/. Her first love Dean, Logan or someone new? How has the town changed-it would be a hoot to see Taylor retired and Kirk in charge? Would love, love to see it all happen

I would really do anything to have a gilmore girls movie. The studio needs “repeat” needs to offer both Alexis and Loren both an obseen amount of money and they need to come up with a wonderful script. Something along the lines of having Lorillie married to luke and pregnant and ready to pop and Rory getting married to Logan and then get pregnant herself and make pretty much were they give birth both at the same time and just make it fun and thier normal selves and it will be great. I want a gilmore girls movie so so much. I literally watch gilmore girls every single day over and over and I can do that and still find myself watching like it’s the first due to the wonderful actors but more then that the production and most of all tge writers because I must say the comedic geniouse is way way past amazing. This will always and forever be one of those shows that live forever and every show any of us watch in the future we will always think about gilmore girls to compare. If there is any luck out there we will not only get a movie but a couple and as thier lives would have played out over the years maybe we will be able to check in in the most if wonderful ways.
