Seattle Grace’s new heartthrob says he’s grateful not to be flipping burgers.
We know you love Jesse Williams — and so does HollywoodLife.com! So we couldn’t resist chatting up one of Grey’s Anatomy‘s latest additions when we saw him Feb. 26 at the NAACP Image Awards. “I’m incredibly grateful to have this opportunity,” he told us of his blossoming career. “I could be flipping burgers, and uh… no disrespect to people who flip burgers. We’re not caught in a snowstorm back in Brooklyn either, so things could be far worse.” A recurring role on one of TV’s hottest shows? Oh yes, Jesse, things could be far worse.
Speaking of the show, Jesse says there’s no word yet as to whether or not he’s being bumped up to a series regular next season. For now, he’s just happy to be scrubbing in at all. “I was only supposed to be on two episodes and now we’re on 13,” he told us. “[I'm] just kicking along and keeping a job.”
Even though he’s become totally at ease walking the halls of Seattle Grace, Jesse admits there’s still one place that’s pretty awkward — the red carpet! “Social situations are weird like these,” he said. “You like to meet people when you meet them. It’s so cool though to be on a carpet with Morgan Freeman and Alfre Woodward. I met Lee Daniels about a project. It was cool and the purpose of it… it was the right time to meet him.” (Could they have been talking about Precious producer Lee’s upcoming movie Selma? We think so!)
And casting directors better listen up! Jesse has played all sorts of roles in his career (a doctor, a cop and an artist/model) and he’s on the prowl for new roles during his downtime from Grey’s: “If I can find something that’s great during our hiatus, I’ll take it on.”
We can’t wait to see what Jesse does next. Whatever it is, we’ll be watching!
