Listen to someone who knows – our guest blogger, 28-year-old Blake Lewis – is a man who knows! He did come in as American Idol’s Season 6 runner-up, after all!
Hey guys, this is my first blog for HollywoodLife.com and my first time watching American Idol in its entirety. I’m really excited to give you my highlights each week. This show means a lot to me and I know it does to you, too.
This season started off with the girls, and I must say I was really mad at all their song choices. This show is all about song choice and performance style, and on their night, the girls missed the bar on both.
Highlight #1 – Ellen! I’m really glad she is a part of the show. Many people are skeptical about her, but on the girls’ night, she gave us both comedy and judgment. Her criticism was actually on-point, and I think she’s going to do a great job this whole season.
Highlight #2 – Lily Scott singing Fixing A Hole by The Beatles. Man, I love this girl’s voice. With her platinum hair and jazzy tone, Lilly really seems to have a chance on the show. She reminds me of Allison Iraheta from Season 8.
Highlight #3 – Guys night. I was 50/50 with the performances and song choices, but these guys really changed it up. Many of them flipped the songs and did their own, original spins on some classic tunes.
Highlight #4 – Andrew Garcia, in particular, doing his own rendition of Fall Out Boy’s Sugar We’re Going Down. This guy’s got a great ear for arranging and a killer voice. I really hope he makes it far in this competition.
Highlight #5 – Simon giving one of the most surprising critiques I have ever heard come out of his mouth. I couldn’t believe it. He praisedLee Dewyze’s performance and I almost lost myself. Lee was trying to achieve a David Cook or Chris Daughtry vibe and his vocal performance was super flat. I don’t know what Simon was thinking, but I hope he doesn’t influence the other judges.
Hope everyone is enjoying the season so far and I’m looking forward to writing more of these blogs for you.
