We Expected More From The 'American Idol' Boys Last Night! What Did YOU Think?

Did most of the top 12 boys choke, or are our expectations just too high?

After suffering through disappointing performances from the top 12 girls on American Idol, we finally got a chance to watch the guys take the stage last night, and the results were… slightly less disappointing. Though there were a few standout performances (big ups to Casey James and Joe Muñoz) we couldn’t help but long for the boys of season eight: Where were the Adam Lamberts? The Kris Allens? We’d even settle for another Matt Giraud.

Todrick Hall, 24, set the tone for the evening by butchering Kelly Clarkson‘s “Since U Been Gone” with an awkward R&B rendition that just didn’t work. Even 20-year-old Tyler Grady (who we love) put on a lackluster performance of The Guess Who‘s “American Woman.” The judges agreed his ’70s rocker vibe is too cliché and it feels forced. Tyler told Ryan Seacrest he may have to take a trip to the mall to change his image — and we can’t wait to see to see what he comes up with!

Casey James, 27, and Joe Muñoz, 20, were hands down the best performers of the night. Even if he had buttoned his shirt all the way, we still would have loved Casey’s rendition of “Heaven,” and Joe reminded us all why Jason Mraz‘s “You and I Both” was such a hit in the first place. expects big things from these two.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, 20-year-old Tim Urban reminded us why he didn’t originally make it into the top 24 with his embarrassing performance of OneRepublic‘s “Apologize. (Note to performers: know your voice, and don’t choose songs with crazy high notes if you have no falsetto whatsoever!) Still, he’s kind of too adorable to hate and we wouldn’t be surprised to see his beautiful mane make it through for another week.

The rest of the guys (Lee DeWyze, Andrew Garcia, Aaron Kelly, Alex Lambert, Michael Lynche, John Park, and Jermaine Sellers) were decent, but none of them stuck out in our minds as much as Casey or Joe. Boys, if you want to grab America’s attention you’re going to need to step up your game! BFFs, who do YOU want to see make it through to next week?
