How does Lindsey Vonn’s skin look so great when it’s so cold on the slopes?
If you’ve ever spent a day on the slopes you know it can take a toll on your skin from head to toe. So, how do the ladies of the Olympics like Lindsey Vonn always look so gorgeous, not wind burnt, after their runs? Moisturizer! “Between extreme dryness and freezing conditions, winter weather can have a very damaging effect on skin,” says Dr. Sapna Westley, Assistant Attending Physician in the Department of Dermatology at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City and Kao Brands Company Consulting Dermatologist. “Chapped, cracked, dry skin requires penetrating, therapeutic moisture to hydrate and relieve.” Dr. Westley explains that that to maintain luminous skin, you must protect the skin barrier of your face and body with rich moisturizers. “When the barrier is damaged or reduced from winter dryness, your skin becomes more sensitive,” Dr. Westley says. Look for body and face moisturizers with humectants like olive oil, shea butter or hyaluronic acid to keep hydration locked in the skin. - Marta Topran
