Could you find the courage and strength to do what Joannie did?
Just two days after Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette‘s mom, Therese 55, unexpectedly passed away she competed in the Winter Olympics with an almost perfect performance. Joannie skated Feb. 23 in the women’s figure skating short program in front of 14,000 people including her proud father Normand at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver and she walked away with the third highest score. “I have no regrets,” the 24 year-old Montreal, Quebec native told Michael Slipchuk, the high performance director for Team Canada. “It was hard to handle, but I appreciate the support.” Sadly, Joannie’s mom was actually in Vancouver to watch her daughter perform, when she was struck by an unexpected heart attack and passed away at the Vancouver general Hospital.
We are so proud of Joannie and we find this to be beyond inspirational.
