American figure skaters Meryl Davis, 23 and Charlie White, 22, took second place in the Figure Skating Ice Dance event Feb. 22 at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Meryl and Charlie were the first to skate in the competition and they wowed judges with their performance to Phantom of the Opera. “We skated as well as we could,” admitted White. The duo ended the three-day competition with a total of 215.74 points not too far behind Canadian first place winners Tessa Virtue, 20, and Scott Moir, 22 who finished with an overall score of 221.57. The North Americans achieved a rare accomplishment – Europeans have until now won and dominated this event!
