Keira opens up in the March issue of Elle magazine and admits she’s very carful about who she trusts!
Keira Knightley may appear to be a very serious actress but she actually takes a very lighthearted approach when it comes to her acting. “Every time I do an interview with the English press one of their questions is, ‘How do you feel knowing that everyone thinks you’re a sh*t actress?'” The Pirates of the Caribbean star has definitely learned how to develop a thick skin and it all started with her upbringing. “I know [my parents] would never tell me I was sh*t because they were trying to hurt me,” she tells Elle. “It would always come from a very sincere place.” But she makes sure to not let everyone’s opinion alter her mindset. “You have to be selective about the people whose advice and opinions you take.”
Keira, 24, has been juggling an upcoming film Last Night and her current stage role in The Misanthrope at London’s Comedy Theatre. “When we were making [Last Night], the arguments on set were just amazing about whether mental infidelity is better or worse than physical infidelity,” she says. “There was a huge gender divide on the question. Every single woman said that mental infidelity is 10 times worse than [an emotionless assignation]. And most men I spoke with said that it’s the physical act that would be the ultimate betrayal.”
Keira’s admits that her new role as Jennifer, an American film star, in The Misanthrope is a very challenging task. “She’s kind of a crazy mix of being a complete b*tch — confident and terrifying — yet she’s incredibly young and is probably exploited way more than she actually realizes,” says Keira. — Chloe Melas
