Would you watch someone as controversial as Howard Stern on THE most popular reality TV show in America?
We thought Simon Cowell was a tough judge, but shock jock Howard Stern would take “critical” to a whole new level. The notoriously political radio host is rumored to be in talks with Fox to replace Simon on American Idol next year, but can you really imagine him perched behind a table with Randy Jackson and Ellen Degeneres?
It’s an [insert 'what the heck are they thinking' adjective here] thought and that’s why the bigwigs love the idea of replacing Simon — who makes an alleged $50-million a year on Idol —with the highest paid and incredibly controversial dude in town.
“They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. Idol will do what it takes to sign him,” an insider dished to the New York Post. “It’s one of the few shows that could compete with Stern’s $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and Idol bosses think he’d be even nastier than Simon.”
Yeah, you think? Howard Stern, 56, makes Simon Cowell, 50, seem like a sweet, unassuming kitty in comparison.
Even though Fox is after him big time, Howard isn’t totally on board with the idea of judging wannabe rock stars.
“I was approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show and leave here and do that next year — and I did turn it down,” the host told audiences on his Sirius XM Radio show recently. “I’m not even sure if I want to be working. I’m waiting to see what happens.”
An alleged 100,000 contestants auditioned to be on American Idol season nine, but if Howard Stern becomes a judge, we bet that number drops. He’s freaky scary!

I’ve been a huge American Idol fan, but no, if Stern replaces Simon I will not watch it any longer. I’m not sorry Simon’s gone, but please let’s have a nicer person than Simon, not meaner. HOw could they even consider a man like HS? These are young people he’d be dealing with, for gosh sake.
