So long Simon! Hello Katy as the new tough top host of American Idol!

Songstress Katy Perry, 25, loved guest judging on American Idol so much on Jan. 27 that she’d kiss off her singing career and sit and be Simon, she says. “The American Idol experience was awesome,” she told MTV. “If I was offered that job as a permanent host, I would ditch my career and take on that career.” Do it Katy! She  was fabulously acerbic ripping into contestants and other judges.  “This isn’t a Lifetime movie”, she snapped at fellow judge, Kara DioGuardi, after Kara went all soft on a singer who grew up in foster care. “You  have to have talent,” she retorted to Kara, reminding her that it was a singing contest!

If you thought that the old Paula Abdul/Simon head-to-heads couldn’t be topped, then watch out cause Katy laced into Kara, after she sang her hit, “I Kissed a Girl.”  “Please stop, or I’ll have to throw my Coke in your face.” Whew!  Nice smackdown!  Now, Simon has said, he “wants to leave ‘Idol’ this year bigger and better than it was in the past.” If that’s the case, then he should urge top Fox execs to seriously look at signing up Russell Brand‘s fiance. Apparently, ex-Sony Records chief Tommy Mottola, who discovered and then married Mariah Carey, is the front runner for the Simon job.

We say — say that ain’t so — we want Katy as the new Simon.  She’s funny, she’s fun to look at, she has an ear for talent and she makes for good TV!?
