Can you picture anyone else playing Peter Parker besides Tobey?
It’s pretty impossible to imagine someone besides Tobey Maguire in the role of Spider-Man. After all, the 34-year-old has been playing the webbed hero since 2001. But unfortunately for all you fans, you’re going to have to accept that Tobey’s run is over, as Deadline.com‘s Mike Fleming and Nikki Finke first reported.
Sony Pictures announced Jan. 11 that Spider-Man 4 is a no-go and when the popular film franchise is up and running again, Peter Parker will be played as a teenager.
This, of course, means a whole new cast so Tobey, 34, Kirsten Dunst (who played Mary Jane Watson), James Franco (Harry Osborn) and director Sam Raimi are all getting the boot.
“While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,” Sam said.
The news comes as a shocker not only to Marvel fans, but most likely Tobey himself. The actor told E! News just two months ago that he expected to start shooting the fourth Spider-Man film in February or March. Instead, the saga is scheduled to begin again in summer 2012.

The Spiderman franchise needed something like this. I wasn’t really a fan of any of the movies. Yea, they were entertaining but they were missing something. They better not mess this up.
