Are you as bummed as we are that TV’s hottest football-playing hunk is officially handing in his jersey?

Get ready to say goodbye, girls — Friday Night Lights heartthrob Taylor Kitsch is finally departing Dylan, Texas for the bright lights of a big city called Los Angeles and the promise of a stellar career on the big screen, reports TV Guide Magazine.

Taylor, 28, wants to devote his full attention to becoming a movie star. But it isn’t like the Canadian-born actor, who plays bad boy Tim Riggins on the NBC drama, is a newcomer to the box office. He starred alongside Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Gambit and will be appearing with Ryan Phillippe in The Bang Bang Club later this year. He also just signed on the sci-fi fantasy John Carter of Mars, which starts shooting later this month.

The good news for Taylor is that he has the blessing and support of the FNL execs. “Because this was a big opportunity for him, we wanted to let him do that,” executive producer Jason Katmins told TV Guide.

And even better news for all you fans, who lost cast original members Adrianne Palicki last season and Zach Gilford this season, is that Taylor will still be guest-starring on the show. “We’ll stay in close contact with production and try to get him for as many episodes as possible,” Jason added.

While we’re happy that Taylor has a stellar new career, we must confess that we’re completely bummed he’s leaving one of our favorite shows. Who else could make being a bad boy look so damn good?
