Have you seen ‘Avatar’ yet? What are you waiting for?
We’re starting to wonder if the world’s Avatar obsession will ever cool down! James Cameron‘s monster epic took in an estimated $48.5 million this weekend, bringing its global total to more than $1.3 billion, according to Deadline.com. It’s officially the second highest grossing movie of all time, behind 1997′s Titanic (another Cameron hit) which has taken in about $1.8 million worldwide. Needless to say, Avatar was also the No. 1 movie this weekend.
Sherlock Holmes came in second place this weekend with $16.6 million, and Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel wasn’t too far behind with $16.3 million. The vampire thriller Daybreakers debuted in fourth place with $15 million, and Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin‘s romantic comedy It’s Complicated rounded out the top 5 with $11 million.
