Would you invite your trainer to your holiday meals to monitor your diet? James did!
Talk about dedication! The first contestant to get the boot from season nine of The Biggest Loser, James Crutchfield, is so focused on winning the $100,000 at-home prize that he even invited his trainer to attend Thanksgiving AND Christmas dinners, so every morsel he put in his mouth would be monitored.
James, 30, a human resource director from Orlando, Fla., weighed 485 pounds at the show’s onset, but has lost nearly 75 in two months thanks to his diligent new diet.
“My trainer actually came over on Thanksgiving and on Christmas to help keep me in line,” James told reporters Jan. 6. “On Thanksgiving, everything we made was from The Biggest Loser Cookbook. I poached turkey breast and it actually tasted better than regular turkey breast! It was so juicy!”
Eating healthy has obviously never been James’ forte … and he’s the first to admit it. “My biggest problem was the nutrition, I think,” he explained. “I was eating out three to four times a day before and had about 14,000 milligrams of salt. No wonder my blood pressure was through the roof!”
After ballooning to nearly 500 pounds, James thought his only option was lap-band surgery or a gastric bypass. His wife, on the other hand, had a different suggestion. “She’s been watching the show since the first season,” James explained. “She dragged [my twin brother John and me] to the audition and actually stood in line for me for six hours because I could barely stand up.”
Oh, how things have changed! Since his week-long stay at the ranch, James has built up so much endurance he now swims anywhere from two to four hours every day. “Anybody, doesn’t matter if you have an injury or not, can get a great workout in the pool,” the new fitness enthusiast raved.
Although James hasn’t been in much contact with his brother—who’s currently a contestant on the show—he assured everyone his former “half-ton twin” is doing very well.
Do you think James’ dedication will help him win the at-home challenge? What did you think of the premiere episode?
