We know 2009 was rough on you – your CW series was cancelled after only two episodes – but is playing a hooker the best way to revive your career in 2010?

Mischa Barton has had a tough couple of years. With a With a DUI arrest in Dec. ’07, followed by a July ’09 stint in an involuntary psych ward and a canceled TV show—The Beautiful Life—in the fall, the 23-year-old actress certainly hasn’t had much luck. Will the new decade be more Mischa-friendly?

We’ll let you be the judge.

The former O.C. starlet is making a return to TV with a one-episode guest role on Law and Order: SVU. But Mischa’s SVU moment may not be as glam as it sounds: according to TV Guide Magazine, she’ll play a prostitute named Gladys.

Her hooker (heart of gold status still pending) will hide a secret that’s standing in the way of something Mariska Hargitay’s character, Benson, wants. We don’t see this ending well for poor Gladys, especially given that Benson is a detective, a crime-fighter who puts prostitutes in jail.

Although SVU executive producer Neal Baker outed Mischa’s return to the small screen, her agent tells HollywoodLife.com a different story, saying that, as of Jan. 5, the guest stint still isn’t a done deal, and that her team is still hammering out contractual details with the show.

Our guess: things will work out for Mischa/Gladys. Although she’ll be playing a hooker (not awesome) at least the episode is going to get a lot of viewers, as it’s set to air right after the Winter Olympics March 3. Not bad, right?

Do you think Mischa’s going to make her big comeback?
