There’s no stopping Avatar — it’s on fire!

Avatar continued its ruthless domination over the box office this weekend, grossing about $68.3 million in the U.S. and bringing its worldwide total to more than $1 billion, according to Deadline.com! Our hats off to you, James Cameron — your new epic is an unstoppable success. Sherlock Holmes also did pretty well this weekend with about $38.3 million stateside, and Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel wasn’t too far behind with $36.6 million.

Meanwhile, the star-studded musical Nine performed poorly this weekend, bringing in a disappointing estimated $4.2 million. Even with that loss, it was definitely a big weekend at the movies! So tell us: What did YOU go see?

I’m ashamed to admit that I was one of the contributors to the $68.3 million this weekend. I think this movie was too hyped. Looked great, sounded awful. Seriously, that script could use some MAJOR dialogue help. FYI, James Cameron, “I see you” will NOT be the new “Never let go.”
