Happy New Year, Charlie — Brooke is going to give you a second chance!

Lucky Charlie Sheen, 44, is getting a late Christmas present. Contrary to reports, his wife of one and a half years, Brooke Mueller, 32, isn’t planning to file for divorce despite the couple’s domestic dispute in Aspen, Colo. on Christmas Day.

“Brooke and Charlie are very passionate about each other, they love each other and want to try and save their marriage,” Brooke’s lawyer, Yale Galanter, told People Dec. 30. “They had a bad night and want to get beyond it. They want to try and resolve their issues.”

Brooke is making the first step in getting their marriage back on the right track — she’s asking the court to modify a prior restraining order that prohibited contact between she and the Two and Half Men star. This way, “the couple can see each other immediately and work through the issues,” says Galanter.

We’re glad these two are putting so much effort into saving their marriage, especially for the sake of their 9-month-old twins, Bob and Max. But we also hope that the couple — recovering addicts who fell off the wagon the night of their incident — will focus on staying sober and never relapse again.

Something tells me that they aren’t going to last. I don’t believe in parents staying in marriages for their children. Sometimes that does more harm than good. They both need to get help so that their children don’t get taken away.
