Diane — you got past the jitters on your ABC evening news debut! And we loved how you sparred with the prez of Iran!
Diane Sawyer — it’s clear you were just a little nervous last night as you anchored your first-ever broadcast of ABC’s World News — but you made it through with the understated calm and cool confidence that we’ve come to expect! Just three days after longtime anchor Charles Gibson left the anchor chair, it was an amazing sight to see you right there on your sleekly minimalist set.
You started warmly and charmingly as always, and after a slightly overlong segment with your on air guest George Stephanopoulos — your successor on Good Morning America – we think you moved the newscast forward deftly. Well, at least until about the ten-minute mark, when there was an awkward moment, possibly with the TelePrompTer — and you said “Presidents” when you meant “presents.” But, as ever, you picked it up smoothly after the break … and the rest of the broadcast went off as crisply as the lapels on your navy blue suit.
We’re totally proud of you and now you join Katie Couric as the two leading ladies of nightly news! — Chloe Melas
