When you split with your BF, do you mope at home or carry on with your life like Reese and Jake did?

If breaking up is always hard to do, getting over a love lost is even harder. But in the wake of Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal’s recent breakup, both seem to be moving on just fine.

Although he spent the morning moping, Jake celebrated his 29th birthday as a single man on Saturday, Dec. 19, partying and dancing with pal Matt Dillon at Thompson’s Smyth TriBeCa Hotel in NYC.

“Jake was having a guys night,” an eyewitness tells HollywoodLife.com. “He was dancing while Mark Ronson DJ’d and stayed for about two hours, just enjoying himself. He hung out with Matt the whole time though, there were definitely no other women involved.”

While her ex celebrated on the other side of the country, Reese spent time with her children in Los Angeles. She stopped by high-end children’s boutique Jenny Becs in Brentwood Dec. 20 to do some Christmas shopping with her kids Ava, 10 and Deacon, 6.

“Reese seemed to be in a good mood, just smiling and interacting with her children quietly,” an eyewitness tells HollywoodLife.com. “She was really cheerful, just like a normal mom who comes in and maintains focus on her kids.”

As the primary reason for breaking up with Jake was to spend more time with her kids, at least it’s good to know that Reese is true to her word.
