As Hollywood mourns the loss of Brittany Murphy, who died early this morning of cardiac arrest, we’d also like to reflect on her incredible career. Brittany contributed many memorable characters to movies and television shows adored by fans all over the world, and was even a budding musician years before she passed away. She will be missed.
- Her Movies: Brittany became a household name playing Alicia Silverstone‘s fashion-challenged friend Tai in 1995’s hit comedy Clueless. She then went on to star in major movies like 1999’s Girl, Interrupted opposite Angelina Jolie, and 2001’s Don’t Say A Word opposite Michael Douglas. Other movies included Uptown Girls with Dakota Fanning, 8 Mile with Eminem and Sin City.
- Her Music: Though not as widely publicized as her acting career, Brittany was also a recorded singer. Her first professional track was a song called “Faster Kill Pussycat,” which was included on Paul Oakenfold‘s 2006 album, A Lively Mind. Later that year, Brittany recorded two songs for the Happy Feet soundtrack, a cover of Queen‘s “Somebody To Love” and Earth, Wind & Fire‘s “Boogie Wonderland.”
- Her TV Work: Brittany provided the voice for Luanne Platter on the Fox animated series King of the Hill for an incredible 13 seasons from 1997 to 2009.
- Her Relationships: One of Brittany’s highest profile relationships was with her Just Married co-star Ashton Kutcher, which lasted from 2002 to 2003. She got engaged to production assistant Joe Macaluso in December 2005, but their engagement ended in August 2006. Finally, she married Simon Monjack, a screenwriter, in 2007. They were still married at the time of her death.
