Dexter fans … in case you didn’t know already — Rita is dead!
Dexter‘s Julie Benz “wasn’t happy” over getting getting killed off says Executive Producer Clyde Phillips exclusively to HollywoodLife . “She was upset, disappointed, professional, and gracious. She was everything you could ask for from a professional actor,” continues Clyde. Julie has been a member of Dexter‘s cast since Season 1 playing the role of Rita, Dexter’s wife. For such a close knit cast, it was very hard for them to say goodbye to Julie: “It was very difficult to tell her because we love her,” explains Clyde.
Dexter fans…Can you believe this? Rita won’t be returning for Season 5! The writers decided to have her killed off — and in the most ironic of ways– by the hand of the of the Trinity Killer, character Arthur Mitchell. Trinity left Rita’s body for Dexter to find in a bathtub filled with her own blood — one of Trinity’s staple murder techniques seen in repeat serial sets of three throughout Season Four.
With Rita dead, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) will be left to raise his son alone — and in the wake of the second part of Season Four’s deathly symbolic ending. Not only did Trinity take Rita’s life, but he left Dexter’s son sitting in a pool of her blood. This is the same way Dexter’s “dark passenger” was born — in the blood of his mother’s murder.
So, every Dexter fan is left to guess the outcome of this outrageously twisted finale. Will Dexter’s son turn out to be a serial killer just like his father? We can’t wait for Season Five to find out!
Filming for Season 5 begins in May 2010!
