Hey, Hollywood, what’s up with all the hip tatts?
Britney Spears has two – a cross and a Japanese character that means “mystery.” Carrie Underwood has one, a green clover that she showed off on Dec. 7 while vacationing at the Cove Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. So, what’s up with the trend? “Girls think their crotch is powerful so they put a tattoo on it,” jokes Bang Bang, the NYC tattoo artist at East Side Ink responsible for much of Rihanna’s ink. “It’s probably because it’s kind of a private area and some girls don’t want tattoos to show. Some are younger girls and want to hide from their parents. If it’s on your hip you can hide it,” he says.
On her official fan club site, Carrie wrote, “It was a breezy 80 something outside and the sun was shining bright…I managed to get a nice little bronzy color today. I’m actually a wee bit burned, but it doesn’t hurt.” Better slather on some sunscreen, Carrie. “Sun acts as bleach. Over time it will fade because it breaks up the pigment. So it’ll lighten your tattoo,” warns Bang Bang. – Marta Topran
