All signs point to New Moon being the biggest movie of 2009.

“Online ticketing services say it’s the biggest thing they’ve ever seen,” says Paul Dergarabedian, president of the box office division of Hollywood.com. “The first one [Twilight] opened $69 million–this one’s going to obliterate it.”

Transformers II, the highest grossing movie of 2009 so far, made $109 million its first weekend and to date has racked up $402 mill. “It’s not outside the realm of possibility for the movie to beat Transformers.”

Twilight opened the same weekend in 2008–the weekend before Thanksgiving–and went on to gross $191 million.

“New Moon is going to be THE destination for virtually every woman in the country this weekend,” says Paul Dergarabedian. “It’s Romeo and Juliet mixed with beefcakes. It’s a total cross-over, I have so many friends in their thirties who can’t wait to see this movie.”
